Recently I shared two books from Macmillan in the new "Draw with..." series, and today I'm featuring two other new picture books from Macmillan that I have received to review.
Lion Practice is a debut picture book, written and illustrated by Emma Carlisle.
Laura loves practising different things, and although her Mum prefers her to practice being something small and quiet like a mouse, most of all she loves being a lion.
Unfortunately her parents aren't too keen on her roaring and leaping, and when she goes too far they tell her off. But they can't bear seeing her sad, and soon her whole family are joining in the game with her.
It's a lovely book and the illustrations really are delightful, they bring the characters to life beautifully. It's also a great starting point for some fun animal imitation games with your own child!
The Cow Who Climbed a Tree by Gemma Merino is about a cow called Tina that wants to show her sisters that there is more to life than chewing grass.
Tina is a very curious cow, and one day she decides to try something new and climb a tree. When she tells her sisters all about the dragon that she met at the top they are not impressed, telling her firmly that dragons are nonsense and don't exist. When she disappears with her new dragon friends her sisters come to find her, and to their amazement they discover a world of surprises.
It's a thoughtful and funny picture book, and is a perfect reminder of the importance of trying new things.
I received these books in exchange for a review, Amazon links are affiliate.
