My crafty plans for the year ahead

For the last two years I've undergone a year long project. In 2016 I made my Sky Blanket, crocheting a row every day the same colour as the sky. In 2017 I took a second of video every day which I have edited together to make a video of our year in seconds.

I loved taking part in both of these very different ways of recording the year, and so I was trying to think of a new crafty project that I could start for 2018.

But as 2017 drew to a close I began to realise that I have accumulated several large craft kits which are going to need quite some time dedicated to them, and I didn't really want to start something new. So instead I have decided to dedicate an amount of time each day to working on one of these projects. I won't be too strict if I miss a day, but I will make a note and make up the time at another point.

Here are my four main projects:

Cross Stitch Map

I received this Cross Stitch Map (affiliate link) for my birthday and I love it. Obviously it's an open ended project because it will never actually be completed, but although I've made a good start I've still got some work to do in order to get it up to date. As well as stitching in a few more countries I also want to mark on the routes of cruises that we've taken.

Circular weaving kit

This was another birthday present from my Mum, and is a craft that I've not tried before. From The Threshing Barn, it's a hoop with a selection of different coloured and textured yarns to make a picture. I'm intending to make this my first new project as although I'm a little daunted to get started I think that once I've got going it will be a lot of fun to work on and it shouldn't take too long.

Persian Tile Crochet Blanket

My Mum also bought me this Persian Tile Crochet Blanket kit, which looks amazing. It is beautiful, and I really hope that I can do it justice. I have a feeling that I'm going to need quite a lot of help with this one and it's definitely a very long term project but I'm looking forward to seeing how I get on! There's a Facebook group which seems very helpful so I've been doing some lurking before I make a start, and my Mum and sister also have the blanket kit so I'm hoping that they will be able to help me out!

Christmas cross stitch sampler

I took a long break from cross stitch after I completed my Three Things cross stitch sampler, and I've been keeping my eyes open for another large project to get stuck into. With Christmas coming I was encouraged to add things to my wish list, and after a bit of browsing I found this ABC Christmas sampler (affiliate link). I like the idea of bringing it out at Christmas with our other decorations to admire. However I'm under no illusions that it's going to be complete and framed by next year - the previous sampler took me seven years! It's a little bit cheesier that the sorts of cross stitch design that I normally go for, but I think I can get away with that at Christmas!

Crochet granny square blanket

Finally, in the background I am also working on a granny square crochet blanket for Harry. It will be almost the same as this granny square crochet blanket that I made for Mia, but I'm using green and blue along with the alternating white stripes. It's a nice one to work on while I'm watching television and don't want anything too complicated, especially as it gets larger and each row takes longer to complete.

I'll update my progress at the end of the year!
